It is the best-known variety in the world. It is traditionally grown in Bordeaux.
PHENOLOGY
Sprouts and ripens 5-7 days after Tempranillo.
CLUSTERS AND BERRIES
Medium-small cluster. Small berry with a hard grape skin.
PESTS AND DISEASES
Slightly sensitive to Botrytis, oidium and mildew.
AGRONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS
Open growing habit; therefore, it requires support (trellis system). Manual harvesting is expensive, so it is usually harvested mechanically. Average yield: 4-8,000 kg/ha.
OENOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS
High oenological potential, producing high quality, aromatic wines with a high content in polyphenols (anthocyanins and tannins).
